ABOUT

The Cavendish Chronicles

As producers, we have taken the liberty to revise the 1666 work The Blazing World of Duchess Cavendish of Newcastle, updating its plot and language from its original Middle English to modern times.  We've provided a completely unique spin
with a new main character, and an invitation to all to create their own spin-off characters and plots.  The online series highlights Cavendish's love for scientific inquiry, philosophy, literature and poetry, and outrageous fashion.  Some have called her the first lady of science fiction. The Duchess is the empress of her made-up world, one in which she is free to explore and question scientific theories and general philosophies of her era, a time when girls and women were not encouraged to do so. The Duchess, the Empress in our story too, serves as a role model for young girls and women. We thought we could build upon
her narrative, and modify it to relate to today.

Our story centers on our main character, Lucida, who finds herself in the world of Lady Cavendish. There she finds a kingdom of animals and diverse persons who collaborate as scientists, inventors and philosophers with Cavendish as a young empress. Her throne is centered in a castle filled with books, a huge library of sorts, with laboratories in the side rooms and a long table for the knights of knowledge (only two as our journey begins), who seek answers to questions, prompted by you!

Cavendish's world of magic, mystery and science is now Lucida's world, and here she is encouraged to create her own world, just like her grandmother had once done before her.  Born in South America, Lucida now lives in America.   Soon she will live
in her own world of her making;  first she must enter Virlantis - where The Cavendish Chronicles reside in a parallel universe.

The production team blends an adapted storyline, virtual environments, and original animations and other elements to create a transmedia project that hopefully will engage viewers - especially as participants are encouraged to create their own worlds through art, machinima, music, and writing.  We invite our audience into a world of "serious" role play, while having fun storytelling the way Lady Cavendish did! It's an exploration of ideas, principles and questions!
